Meet Mary Alice Funderud

This lady kept me and my brothers in check growing up. Taught us the value of working hard. She spent 38 years working in retail as a buyer for high-end clothing retailers. She grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and never drove a car, but had no problem hopping on a plane and flying to New York for the fall and spring fashion shows.

I found this picture after her death in 2013. She was a fashionable woman and always dressed the part.

Meet Mrs Thompson.

My name is Sarah, I have dedicated my life to providing comfort and care to the care of our residents. Among the residents, there is a wise and spirited woman named Mrs. Thompson. Despite the challenges she faces, Mrs. Thompson radiates a vibrant energy that touches the lives of everyone around her. She possesses a remarkable ability to see the beauty in every moment and is quick to offer words of wisdom to those who will listen.

I have developed a special bond with her, admiring her resilience and zest for life. In the quiet moments we shared, she often imparts snippets of her life experiences, providing me with invaluable advice that forever shaped my perspective on life.

One day, as we sit together in the community garden, Mrs. Thompson turns to me with a gentle smile. "My dear Sarah," she begins, her voice filled with warmth, "I want to share something with you. Life is a precious gift, and it's up to us to make the most of it."

She continues, "No matter the circumstances, find joy in the little things. Seek out laughter, embrace the simple pleasures, and let gratitude fill your heart. It's these small moments that make life truly extraordinary."

I listen intently, absorbing Mrs. Thompson's words like a sponge. I find solace in her wisdom and understand the importance of cherishing every experience, no matter how big or small.

Mrs. Thompson's advice extends beyond finding joy. She encourages me to approach life with an open heart and an open mind. "Embrace change," she says. "Sometimes, the unexpected paths lead us to the most beautiful destinations. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and explore the world around you."

In the following months, as I continue to care for Mrs. Thompson, I put these teachings into practice. I embrace the joy of laughter, finding moments of mirth even during difficult times. I greet each day with a renewed sense of gratitude, appreciating the simple beauty of a sunrise or the warmth of a shared conversation.

I also discover the power of embracing change. I venture into new hobbies, meet new people, and allow myself to grow and evolve. Mrs. Thompson's guidance has awakened a newfound curiosity within me, and I embrace each experience as an opportunity for personal growth.

As time goes on, I watch Mrs. Thompson's health slowly decline. Yet, even in her final days, her spirit remains strong. With a smile on her lips, she whispers to me, "Live fully, my dear. Embrace every moment, for life is a grand adventure."

Mrs. Thompson's wisdom has forever enriched my life. Through this remarkable resident, I have learned the true essence of living a life filled with gratitude, laughter, and an open heart. Her lessons have become the guiding light that will forever shape my path, reminding me of the immense impact a caring heart and a listening ear can have on the lives of those entrusted to my care.
